Orioles Rumors: Baltimore likely to sign Jim Johnson to minor-league deal

By on 4:54 PM

The Baltimore Orioles are showing interest in the recently released Jim Johnson and it would be a surprise if they don't sign him to a minor-league deal, reports Roch Kubatko of MASNsports.com.

Johnson, 31, didn't come remotely close to living up to the 10 million deal he was given by the Oakland Athletics and was eventually released after going 4-2 with a 7.14 ERA and a 28/23 strikeout-to-walk ratio.

He has obvious familiarity with the Orioles and manager Buck Showalter, so seeing him connected with them is no surprise. He started with them back in 2006 and was with the team through 2013.

In 2013 with the Orioles, he went 3-8 with a 2.94 ERA and a 56/18 strikeout-to-walk ratio. A reunion with Showalter and his former teammates may be exactly what Johnson needs.
