Yankees Rumors: New York eyeing Twins' Josh Willingham

By on 10:40 PM

The New York Yankees are in need of both pitching and hitting upgrades. They have already acquired three pitchers already this month and are likely to add another one, but they are also aggressively searching the trade market for another bat.

Jon Heyman of CBSSports.com reports that the Yankees are eyeing Minnesota Twins outfielder Josh Willingham.

Willingham, 35, has battled injuries this season and has had a down year, but his power bat is still intriguing to many teams around the league. He is one of the Yankees top trade targets, as he is a free agent at the end of the year and would help add some power to their lineup.

Yankee Stadium would be an ideal fit for Willingham, too. As Rotoworld.com says, he has played in pitchers parks his entire career. A move to New York to play for the Yankees would give him the opportunity to play in a hitters park and we could see his home run totals go up quite a bit.

In 56 games this season, he has hit .215 with 10 home runs and 29 RBI. In his last five games, he has gone 5-18 at the plate with two home runs and four RBI.
