The Indians and Rays have had recent discussions about a David Price trade, according to a source with knowledge of the situation. A deal is not close as of now, the source said.
Cleveland's starting rotation has been among the worst in the American League and they are in need of a big upgrade. Adding a guy like Price would give them a huge boost at the top part of their rotation and help them in their pursuit of the Detroit Tigers and Kansas City Royals in the American League Central.
In order to acquire Price, the Indians are going to have to part with some of their top prospects, but I'm told that they will not deal Francisco Lindor. "No way we give him up", the source said. A name to keep an eye on in a possible deal is outfielder Tyler Naquin, who has been involved in trade talks, the source added.
Price, 28, is having one of the best seasons of his career. In 20 starts so far this season, he has gone 9-7 with a 3.23 ERA and a 164/21 strikeout-to-walk ratio.
