Rangers News: Jerome Williams signs

By on 6:18 PM

The Texas Rangers have signed right-hander Jerome Williams to a minor league contract and sent him to Round Rock, the club's Triple A affiliate. The Rangers have made a number of roster moves with pitchers in the last week in an effort to find some stability in the quality of pitching aside from staff ace Yu Darvish.

SBN's Lone Star Ball reports that the Rangers had previous interest in Williams in the offseason after left-hander Derek Holland injured his knee. However, Williams signed a major league deal with the Houston Astros. He went on to put up a 6.04 ERA in 26 games as a reliever. The Astros released Williams in June.

The Rangers are currently sitting on a five game losing streak and in last place in the AL West after getting swept by the Astros. They began a series with the LA Angels on Thursday, only to lose in a 15-6 rout where Colby Lewis gave up a franchise record 13 runs in two innings.
