Padres Rumors: Joaquin Benoit drawing interest from Tigers, Angels

By on 3:04 PM

The San Diego Padres continue their uncertain season at third in the NL West, but 10 games behind the LA Dodgers, and it is likely that they take the role of sellers very soon. Specifically, they could be ready to move some bullpen pieces. Joaquin Benoit and Huston Street are drawing plenty of interest from contending teams looking for additional help.

Chris Cotillo at MLB Daily Dish reports that the Detroit Tigers and LA Angels in particular could be looking for bullpen pieces. The Tigers currently own a 4.58 ERA for their bullpen, which is the second worst in the majors, and they previously had Benoit for three seasons. The Angels most recently added Jason Grilli and Joe Thatcher to help their own 4.13 bullpen ERA, but may still be interested in acquiring Street.

Benoit owns a 1.26 ERA for the Padres in 35.2 innings, and is owed $12.5 million in guaranteed money by the club for the next two seasons.
