BREAKING: Patrick Peterson, Arizona Cardinals agree to 5-year extension

By on 12:47 AM

The long-anticipated contract extension between star cornerback Patrick Peterson and the Arizona Cardinals has finally arrived. NFL.com broke the news of the extension Tuesday night, an extension that is deservingly large. Peterson is set to play through the 2020 season after this contract extension, and the numbers are big, even bigger than fellow NFC West cornerback Richard Sherman.

Peterson's money puts him at $70 million over the next five years with $48 million guaranteed. For comparison's sake, That's $8 million more in guaranteed money than Sherman's recent extension gave him. While the debate on who's the better corner may be a close one, Peterson won in the money category.

Peterson is young (24) and has many years left of skillful play. He's super athletic and has a ton of potential. Last year was the best season of his career, and he's only growing. This contract will put him and the Cardinals at ease -- now he can focus solely on training camp.
