Blue Jays Rumors: Toronto in on everyone

By on 8:59 AM

The Toronto Blue Jays need help.  They had a very large lead in the division and were cruising to the playoffs.  But reality, along with injuries hit, and now they need help at numerous positions.  Nick Cafardo of the Boston Globe reports:
Word is the Blue Jays are in on everyone, from David Price to Hamels to Ben Zobrist and Chase Utley. “They’ve got their scouts looking at everyone, and [GM Alex] Anthopoulos is very active himself scouting,” said one AL special adviser."

The injuries to Brett Lawrie, Edwin Encarnacion, Adam Lind, Brandon Morrow & Maicer Izturis have the Blue Jays playing their farm talent all over the field.  Throw in injuries to backups Cole Gillespie & Nolan Reimold, it's understandable why they're at the point where they don't have much left to call up from Triple-A.

Lawrie, Encarnacion & Lind should all be back in the next four weeks.  Once they return though, the Jays will still need a second baseman.  They could use a starting pitcher to solidify the rotation.  They could use some relievers to fit in to one of the worst bullpens, statistically, in baseball.  The Jays don't want to have to give up their top-end prospects but they may have no choice if they want to be in a playoff race.

The Toronto Blue Jays haven't made the playoffs in 21 years.  They haven't played a meaningful game in September since 1993 either.  The Blue Jays sit four games back of the division and two-and-a-half games from the second wild card.  The franchise, city & fans are chomping at the bit to make the playoffs.  You have to believe a move will be made.  But will it be too late?  Only time will tell.
