Bears News: GM loved Jimmy Clausen's workout

By on 6:16 PM

Chicago Bears backup quarterback Jimmy Clausen impressed GM Phil Emery in training camp this week, leading to high hopes for the recently signed former Notre Dame standout.  Chicago Tribune writer Rich Campbell who covers the Bears for the newspaper tweeted:

Clausen was released by the Carolina Panthers after spending the entire 2013 season on injured reserve. The Bears have been looking for a solid backup option after 2013 backup Josh McCown signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in March.  McCown played very well in place of the injured Jay Cutler from Week 7 through Week 14, so the Bears were desperate for a solid replacement.

The fact that Emery is very excited about Clausen's workouts are showing good promise to the fact that he could become the front runner to back up Cutler this season.
