While obviously Cliff Lee's future is still up in the air, it's hard to imagine the Phillies agreeing to a reduced return on Lee if he fails to establish his health in time. It's also hard to imagine potential suitors willing to put up full value, or even high value, on a less than healthy pitcher.
"Because he has two years left on his contract at $25 million each, he may clear waivers when he is healthy."
Lastly, if Lee is picked up this season but after July 31st he will not be eligible for his new team's playoff roster.
