NBA Rumors: Kings, Hawks talk No. 8 pick

By on 6:26 PM

Mere moments after the completion of last month's NBA Draft Lottery, it was reported that the Sacramento Kings were interested in trading their first-round pick, No. 8 overall, for a veteran player. The Kings have an incredibly young roster, and the thought process here is that they'd rather acquire a readymade talent than develop another rookie and wait for him to contribute. If they're able to retain both Rudy Gay and Isaiah Thomas this summer, there's some legit talent to work with in Sacramento with players like DeMarcus Cousins and Ben McLemore already on board.

ESPN's Chad Ford said in a chat session on Wednesday that one of the teams that has engaged the Kings in talks regarding the 8th overall pick is the Atlanta Hawks.
The Hawks have been talking to the Kings about moving up to No. 8. (Dario) Saric would be a target for them there as would Nik Stauskas.
This is expected to be one of the deeper draft classes we've had in recent years, so there's some major value to be had if the Kings are indeed wanting to ship out their pick. Is Atlanta smitten enough with some of the players in the draft pool to part with one of their core players?

There has already been word that the Hawks have shopped All-Star center Al Horford, and it's tough to imagine anyone on the roster, Paul Millsap included, would be considered "untouchable".
