Senators Rumors: Will Paul MacLean be the head coach next season?

By on 3:57 AM

Less than a calendar year out from being named the winner of the Jack Adams Trophy as the coach of the year in the National Hockey League Paul MacLean could easily find himself looking for a job this off-season.

As the NHL regular season comes to an end and the Ottawa Senators find themselves spectators instead of participants in the playoffs the navel gazing is about to begin in Ottawa. It will be difficult to determine what went wrong for this group this season as so much more was expected from the Senators than they were able to deliver.

MacLean has just completed the first year of a three year contract extension signed prior to the start of this season but there will be some doubt as to whether he will keep his job. Senators general manager was non-committal a couple of weeks ago during a radio interview on TSN1200 and Bruce Garrioch on points out that the coaching carousel will be a crowded one this off-season.

Should MacLean not be retained by the Senators and Paul Maurice not re-up with the Jets MacLean could become the next coach of the Winnipeg club as he is still revered in Winnipeg from his years as a player there.
