Senators Rumor: Bobby Ryan would like to stay around long term

By on 9:10 AM

Senators forward Bobby Ryan is currently recuperating from surgery to repair a sports hernia and took some time to talk to in which in stated that he would like to remain with the club when his contract expires after next season.

Ryan was hoping that the surgery could have been put off until after the season was over but a collision with the boards necessitated the procedure being done earlier than desired. Ryan had amassed 48 points on 23 goals when he had to shut it down and undergo the surgery.

Ryan has a belief system that says, when you are drafted or traded to a club you want to be with that club for the long haul and help to lead them to the highest levels of success. That may seem a little old fashioned in todays world of sports in which the majority of players and certainly their agents, are looking for the most money possible over the short term and take it wherever you can get it.

Both Ryan and his girlfriend are really enjoying being in Ottawa and think of it as a new lease on life. As to a long term future with the Senators, Ryan said, "The organization is a first class organization, they treat you like family....That's something you want to be around."

That is something that will be music to the ears of Senators general manager Bryan Murray, who will have to decide whether to extend Ryan or not. It is expected that talks centered around an extension for Bobby Ryan will commence this off-season, and that should be welcome news for Senator's fans.
