NFL Rumors: Jason Avant visiting the Carolina Panthers

By on 1:47 PM

This afternoon, former wide receiver for the Philadelphia Eagles Jason Avant, will be visiting with the Carolina Panthers.  Jason Avant was released from the Eagles at the end of the 2013 season, while missing a career-low three games according to Mike Florio with NBC Sports.

For Carolina, the interest in Avant is probably higher now since a majority of high-value prospects like Kenny Britt (signed with the Rams) and Hakeem Nicks (signed with the Colts) are off the table for discussion. Even former teammate of Avant, Desean Jackson, drew interest from general manager Dave Gettleman.

However, interest is as close as it gets for Carolina this offseason following the release of 13-year veteran Steve Smith and losing several pieces of last years receiving core. Adding Jerricho Cotchery and Tiquan Underwood thus far in the offseason, Gettleman is pleading to make his case in bettering this cap-challenged team.

Gettleman has gained some distrust from the fan base in Charlotte, whereas this meeting with Avant could either bitter the relationship or support Gettleman's further plan of bringing the Panthers back in the postseason.
