The Baltimore Ravens, only one year removed from being crowned world champions are not wasting anytime trying to reach the pinnacle again. The young Baltimore Ravens franchise is used to success and anything short of a Super Bowl appearance is thought of as a failure for Ozzie Newsome and John Harbaugh
Haloti Ngata was offered a deal that would have let him retire as a Raven according to Marc Sessler of nfl.com. According to sources, the Ravens wanted to do a Suggs-like restructure with Ngata's contract that the big man wanted nothing to do with. Ngata has one of the more unfriendly cap numbers (16 million) in the league from a player who has not missed many games but has struggled with health recently.
Ozzie has done a good job thus far addressing some needs and keeping his own players in house. Keeping Eugene Monroe and Dennis Pitta was huge for Joe Flacco, the addition of Owen Daniels and Steve Smith should give their franchise quarterback more confidence and reliable weapons all over the field.
According to NFL.com’s Albert Breer, the Ravens are sitting right around $6.3 million under the cap so Ngata is not the only Raven who Ozzie is looking to extend to help increase cap space. As Ravens fans say, “In Ozzie we trust”. Therefore, I am sure Ozzie will work things out with Ngata to keep him a Raven beyond his remaining two years that are on his contract.
