NBA Rumors: Could the Lakers target Luol Deng this summer?

By on 6:20 PM

As the nightmare season for the Los Angeles Lakers comes to a close, focus is beginning to shift to what may be in store for them in the offseason. They only have three players on the books for next season, meaning they'll likely have some cash to spend in free agency.

According to Sam Amick of USA Today, one of their targets could be Cleveland Cavaliers forward Luol Deng, who will be an unrestricted free agent.
Another possibility is Luol Deng, currently with the Cleveland Cavaliers...He has not entirely ruled-out going back to Cleveland, but he'll be a free agent this summer, and he's definitely on the Lakers' radar.
Deng's numbers have dipped since being acquired by the Cavs from Chicago back in January. In 39 games thus far with Cleveland, Deng is averaging about 14 points and five rebounds while shooting a paltry 41 percent from the field.

He's known most for his defensive prowess, but he had developed into a decent wing scoring option in his time with Chicago. The decrease in production in Cleveland could be a combination of many things, not the least of which is the general malaise that seems to be constantly hanging over the Cavaliers. Deng is used to playing on teams that make runs into the postseason, so one would imagine suddenly finding himself on a non-contender like the Cavs hasn't helped his motivation much.
