Mariners News: Seattle recalls Nick Franklin

By on 12:20 PM

Infield prospect Nick Franklin has been recalled to the Seattle Mariners, according to Ryan Divish of the Seattle Times.
Nick Franklin was pulled from tonight’s game in Tacoma in the eighth inning. Most of you know this isn’t normal. And Franklin wasn’t hurt. The exit was to prevent him from being hurt before the Mariners likely add him to the 25-man roster tomorrow. Multiple sources have confirmed that Franklin is being called up. Expect Franklin to be join the team in Arlington on Wednesday.
Franklin made his major league debut with Seattle last season. He hit .225 with 12 home runs and 45 RBI in 102 games as a rookie. He hit .265 in 17 spring training games but was sent to Triple-A to begin the 2014 season.

Franklin's outlook was bleak when it was clear the M's were going with a Kyle Seager-Brad Miller-Robinson Cano-Justin Smoak infield. However, young middle infielders with pop and decent defense aren't easy to find so Franklin should have an opportunity to prove himself. A solid month or two could open the door for a trade as well.
