Phillies Rumors: Rollins unlikely to waive no-trade rights

By on 4:59 PM

Over the last few seasons rumors have circulated that Jimmy Rollins may end up leaving Philadelphia via trade, and those rumors are circulating again this year during Spring Training. The 35-year-old has spent his entire 14-year career in Philly, and says he has no intentions of leaving. Rollins has full control over whether or not he gets traded as he has full power to veto any trade deal.

In my opinion, I think it would be best for the Phillies not to attempt to trade Rollins. First of all, he has been a key guy in the clubhouse and he is very solid defensively teaming up with Second Baseman Chase Utley to turn a ton of double-plays every season. On the other side of things, Rollins is also a solid player offensively has he leads the Phillies from the lead-off spot just about every game. To this point in his career, Rollins has an all-time batting average of .269 with 2,222 hits (202 homers) and 847 RBI's. Rollins will almost definitely surpass Mike Schmidt this season for the Phiadelphia's all-time hits record at 2234.
