NFL Rumors: Chiefs interested in Red Bryant; Patriots, Jaguars could show interest

By on 8:17 PM

Expect former Seattle Seahawks defensive lineman Red Bryant to sign before free agency opens March 11. He is an above average run defender, but doesn't rush the passer particularly well, so his upside is limited.

Aaron Wilson of Ravens Insider reports that the Kansas City Chiefs have interest in signing Bryant.

Signing Bryant would likely mean the end of Tyson Jackson in Kansas City. Bryant would be an upgrade over Jackson as a five technique.

Two other teams who could show interest in Bryant are the New England Patriots and Jacksonville Jaguars.

New England has had interest in Bryant for years. In 2011, the Patriots offered Bryant a contract, but were turned down so he could sign with Seattle. He could help provide depth with Vince Wilfork recovering from Achilles tendon surgery.

Bryant's former defensive coordinator, Gus Bradley, is now the head coach for the Jaguars. Bryant and Bradley are familiar with one another and could look to reunite in Jacksonville.
