Anaheim Ducks trade for Stephane Robidas despite being injured

By on 7:10 PM

The NHL-leading Anaheim Ducks continued a time-honored tradition by acquiring a veteran defenceman as depth, however the twist is that the 37-year-old Stephane Robidas is still on Injured Reserve.

Out since Nov. 30th, 2013 with both a broken tibia and fibia, Robidas was given a four-to-six month projection for recovery. With a rod inserted into his leg and screws inserted into his knee, according to Mike Halford of ProHockeyTalk, and already doing upper leg exercises, Robidas seems on track to return by mid-March.

The Dallas Morning News' Mike Heika reports that the Dallas Stars fetched a conditional fourth-round pick in 2014, that becomes a third if Robidas plays in at least half the Ducks' playoff games.

Finally, Robidas is in the final year of a four-year $13.2 million contract, which comes with a $3.3 million cap-hit.
